Homeschoolers: Learn C++ Programming

For those with older students who are interested in learning programming
languages, this may be of interest to you:

Over the summer we did a 3 month study of 3D animation programming. The
study went well, so we are ready to move onto some other topics.

We will be offering a study of the C++ programming language. In
preparation for that study, we're doing a short class this Tuesday to go
over some of the tools/software. The Tuesday session would also be of
interest to someone that does not plan on taking the class, but who
would like to learn more about compilers and tools.

Tuesday, Sept 11 from 2-4pm. - location - Spring (north of Houston)
During this session we will go over the tools needed to program C++. We
will show you how to install what you need on XP and compile a hello
world example on both Linux and XP. We will also show some examples of
things we we are doing with web servers/cgi/php/lamp.
For Tuesday's session the cost is $20.

We will start the C++ study in October. The C++ study will primarily be
done online/at home with assignments so the participants can work around
their schedules. There will be some face-to-face meetings to go over
things, with Gary Frederick as a mentor/facilitator. Gary has over 30
years of programming experience.

We will use Bruce Echel's book - Thinking in C++ for the study.

We will read the book and do the exercises at the end of the chapters.
We will use email and various online resources to work with everyone in
the class. There will be times around twice a month where you can get
with the rest of the class in person if you are able to make it.

We will start in October. continue through November, take a short break
in December and conclude the study in January. By the end of the study
you should have a basic understanding of C++ and you will be able to
write and then run a C++ program.

Cost for the C++ study is $120, which can be broken into payments.

Requirement to know at least one programming language such as:
Java
Python
C <- such as the Thinking in C seminar.

Please contact us at info@jsoft.com if interested and we will follow up
and provide you with directions for Tuesday's session.

We're keeping this class small, but if you know someone that would be
interested, pass on the info and have them contact us.

thanks,

Susan
