Steps You Can Take To Get Organized
Here are a few basic ideas
- Throw it out. If in doubt, throw it out. Crafty items and craft projects that you "might get too" are a homeschooler's bane. There are so many nifty things you can do. But only so many hours in a day. If a craft has been sitting around and gathering dust after a length of time chuck it or give it away. You'll free up space and keep the clutter down.
- A place for everything and everything in it's place. Chose easy to reach and navigate areas to store books and other tools that you use everyday. If items are too hard or frustrating to get out you wont use it. Useless and un-used items are a waste of your homeschooling dollars. Once you've decided where everything should go, make it a habit to store them there. Returning items to their homes is the key to your success.
- Keep records. This is especially useful for High school level homeschoolers. Instead of a mountain of worksheets and old books keep records. Make a folder and keep either a copy of the title page of your workbook or text book or write down the title, author and ISBN of the books you used. Keep a record of grades received and dates. And make notes about how you used the books and any thoughts you have about the book in general.
- Smart storage solutions-use bins without lids for papers, crayons, painting supplies and other art supplies. Lidless bins are not as chic as the ones with lids, but it's one less step to "clean and tidy". You and your kids can just toss stuff in.
If you have "Slob genes"( like most of us) here's a great place to visit for help on pulling it all together. The Fly Lady. We love this web site.
