Beginning Steps: Tradtional Homeschooling
What is traditional homeschooling?
Traditional homeschooling follows the path of a traditional public or private school. These homeschoolers use a curriculum based on textbooks andthe accompanying workbooks. Topics are covered in a very scheduled and linear way. The student reads the text, there is a lecture and possibly a discussion time. Then the student answers the workbook questions based on the materials covered. The workbook is then graded. The focus here is to make sure that the student retains as much of the studied information as possible. As a result there is lots of reviewing and grading.
As a new homeschooler, this is the method you may chose in the beginning. This method can be beneficial as it is familiar to you and your child especially if you are coming from a school environment. You will have the aid of a teacher's manual which will give you confidence in teaching. Regular gradeing and reviews helps you to track whether your child is performing at his or her expected age level.
